Vivekananda Rock Memorial is a place of great magnificent beauty, historical importance and religiously significant monument. Located 500 meters away the mainland in Kanyakumari. It was constructed in 1970 by the Vivekananda Rock Memorial Committee to pay tribute to their respectful leader Swami Vivekananda.
The ferry service from shore to Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari was initially run by Vivekananda Kendra but the service was discontinued in July 1981 following because of the disputes with local fishermen over the dredging issue. Then the State Port Department took over the operations from October, 1981. Later, a the State Government entrusted the operation of the ferry service to PSC with effect from 1984.

From 2nd October 2000, the ferry service has been extended to the “Ayyan Thiruvalluvar Statue” and the fare has been changed from Rs.10.00 to Rs.20.00. Out of this amount, Rs.5.00 per adult ticket and Rs.2.50 per children ticket had to be paid to the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation Ltd. as per Government’s directions. They have provided some facilities for the convenience of tourists which include permanent passenger queue shed, toilet facilities etc.
Normal ferry service Ticket is 35Rs per person while VIP Ticket is 170Rs per person. If you are traveling on School-college trip and upon reaching jetty meet authority with letterhead & all Student have I-Card that proves that they are a student then 50% discount is available for the students. You can buy the ticket directly from the counter on jetty or you can get the ticket through online booking. But during peak time, the queue length could be 2 km long and would take atleast 1 hour. The choice is yours.
