Kanyakumari is a district in the State TamilNadu. It is also called as the “God’s own district”. The name comes from the temple named Devi Kanya Kumari in the region, in Tamil it is pronounced as ‘Kan-Niya-kumari’. Kanyakumari city is located in the southern tip of the Cardamom Hills, which is an extension of the Western Ghats range.

Thiruvananthapuram is the city nearest to it located at a distance of around 85 km and the nearest town is Nagarcoil. Apart from all its beaches and Temples, Kanyakumari also accounts for the Memorial of the great leaders of the country. One of them is Kamarajar Memorial.

Kamarajar Memorial is built in the honor of the freedom fighter, great Tamil leader and the former chief minister of Tamil Nadu Kamaraj. Kamaraj has done many favors for the People of Tamil Nadu, this is the reason why he receives this much honor in Tamil Nadu.

This Memorial is located very close to Gandhi Memorial, It is few meters away from the Gandhi Memorial. It is also located near to the beaches. Kamaraj had also served as the president of Indian National Congress and also was the chief minister of Tamil Nadu. The central hall of the monument has visual biography of Kamaraja presented here through depictions/photographs which covers the entire life of Kamaraj.

The Memorial remains open all days of the week. Opening hours are from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
