Gundicha Temple Puri Timings

The Gundicha temple situated in Jagannath Puri in the state of Odisha is also referred to as the Garden House of Lord Jagannath. It is in the middle of a beautiful garden, having walls on all sides. It is situated about 3 kilometers from the main temple of Jagannath which is also known as the Shrimandira. Both these temples are located at either end of the Bada Danda (Grand Road) which is the route of the famous Puri Ratha Yatra. The Gundicha temple is named after Gundicha, the queen of Indradyumna who has built the temple.

Architecturally the Gundicha temple is an example of a typical Kalinga temple and is built with light-grey sandstone in the Deula style. The temple complex has 4 constituents: vimana (which is tower housing the sanctum), jagamohana (also assembly hall), nata mandapa i.e, festival hall and bhoga mandapa i.e, offerings hall. The kitchen is connected through a small passage.

The cleansing of the Gundicha Temple – Gundicha-marjana – takes place the day before the Ratha Yatra festival as mentioned in Chaitanya-Charitamrita. Darshan of Jagannatha during his stay at Gundicha temple is known to be Adapa Darshana. It is said in scripture that darshan of the Lord Jagannatha at Gundicha temple is equal to ten darshan at Nilachala Temple that is the main temple.

The Temple remains open all days of the week. The timings are 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM and from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
