It was constructed in 1970 in honour of great saint of India, Swami Vivekananda who visited Kanyakumari in 1892. He had then also visited the rock and meditated here for two days.
The ravishing architecture of the memorial is divided into two major sections, named as- the Vivekananda Mandapam and the Shripada Mandapam. Dhyana Mandapam is the meditation hall with six adjacent rooms.Sabha Mandapam is the assembly hall. Pralima Mandapam isthe statue section.

Vivekanand Rock Memorial, in reality, can be reached by ferry, and the ferry service is operational from 8.00 am to 4.30 pm, again off the Kanyakumari Beach. It would take time of 5 to 10 minutes by ferry. Ferry services are available at regular interval near here. Ferry Charges for General ride is Rs 34 and for special or VIP ride is Rs 169.
