Dashashwamedh Ghat Ganga Aarti Varanasi Evening Timings

Varanasi is one of the sacred and oldest cities in the world. It is located at the banks of the holy River Ganga. Here Ganga Aarti is performed daily in the evening by a group of priests at the Dashashwamedh ghat. Through the aarti, Agni Pooja is performed in which there is commitment is made to the Lord Shiva, Mata Ganga, Surya, Agni as well as the whole universe made by the Lord Shiva. A particular type of aarti is held at this ghat on some special occasions, religious festivals and second day of the week which are Tuesdays.

This ceremony is conducted by a group of young saints dressed up with silky saffron and white robes conduct this ceremony. Each saint takes a specific spot in the Ghat and start the procedure by offering flowers to the river. The ritual includes many oil lamps like snake hood lamp which are waved during the Aarti. Conch shells are also blown during the ceremony. Peacock feather fans and Yak tail fans are also waved during the ceremony. In the priests end the ceremony a bowl of water is poured into the river. After which, the devotees let go of small oil lamps with flowers on a leaf to float on the Ganga.
